A Distant Past

Nightsky had needed a walk in the forest to clear her head. Things had been moving so quickly since Silverstar had admitted his love for her. Consequently it was also past midnight. As Nightsky padded on she began to feel very sleepy-so sleepy-ahhhh. She curled in to a ball on the forest floor and fell in to a deep sleep. Nightsky began to dream peacefully, but the peace was broken quickly. Before her were visions of cats with blurred faces, but very familiar scents. Suddenly one queen walked past her and she felt a strong sense of security. Nightsky suddenly realized that they had a scent similar to hers, but it had the strong scent of pine mixed in. Could they be kin? Four cats encircled her, all giving her loving nudges and licks. A sharp, unexpected spasm woke her up from her dream. Nightsky was bewildered. What had the strange dream meant? They couldn't have all been her kin -- she didn't have any siblings. Realizing there was nothing she could do to make the vision come back, Nightsky slinked back to camp.

She settled in to the exact same spot and waited for sleep to engulf her. Soon enough two of the cats were rubbing against her, purring. One male said,"We are sorry you were separated from your brothers and sisters. But when we were alive it seemed the best decision... Are you unhappy now because of our doings?" He kept meowing in a desperate tone,"Please don't be mad at us. We never meant to hurt you. We thought if they didn't know you were from Nightclan you would be accepted. We're sorry." The other cat mewed,"Darksky and I will look over you becuse an important decision is about to be made. Will you join Nightclan and leave Stormclan or will you stay in the clan with your true love, but no other friends?" Darksky spoke,"Spottedcloud and I are your parents. We will always love and watch over you, but this decision must be yours. Maybe we should try talking to your sister..." Both mew,"Good night make the right choice."

Silverstar was stalking a mouse. He crept nearer. Then he sprang. The mouse between his paws. He killed it with a quick bite and scratched some earth on it, so he could collect it later. Suddenly he heard a noise near the ShadowClan border. Intruders? He would shredd them! But when he came nearer he smelled StormClan. Nightsky! The sweet scent filled his nostrils. Should he wake her? No, it was better to let her sleep. It was an unusual place to sleep, so near to the ShadowClan border. Maybe she had been tired from hunting. He sat down next to her. Waiting ´til she would wake.

Nightsky woke up. Silverstar crouched next to her and pressed his fur against hers. Then suddenly and desperatly she cried,"Silverstar I am not a true member of this Clan. I don't even have family here. I don't belong! What should I do?" She stared at her paws after her outburst and a black tortiseshell flashed through her mind, then the other male who had not shown up in her dream tonight. What did he look like? Oh yes, Nightsky remembered now he was pitch black with a white patch around his left eye. And they all had the scent of pines! Nightsky had it now! She was really a member of Nightclan! That meant the two other cats could only be.... Dapplednight and Whitestar!

Silverstar looked as if he had heard the most awful message of StarClan. What did she say? She hadn,´t any family here? He wasn´t leader that long and they both were the same age. But was she really not a member of StormClan?

"What do you mean by that? You´re not a true meber of StormClan? As long as I live you were in StormClan. What´s going on?" He was confused. His love was maybe a Moonclan cat. What should he do? Keep this a secret from the others or bann her because of disloyalty. But he couldn´t. He loved her too much.
