Lightpaw's first lesson

Lightpaw looked at her mentor as she (Lightpaw) padded into the shade of the trees. What am I going to learn today? she meowed. Can I learn the names of some herbs? Or pick something for our stock? I'm so excited!!! She was excited. She had been ever since she had learned she was to be a medicine cat one day. So, Daydream?

"Not so fast. Yes, we are going to take some herbs back to the stock. And you´ll learn some names and what they are used for. Hmm ... Let´s start with the one we are NOT going to take back to our den. Death berries. They are deadly. You have feed them to nobody! There´s only few things you can do if somebody eats them. Firs you make him/her vomit second - but that´s only if the berries are not swallowed yet - you have to get the berries out of the mouth and clear it with water. but don´t let the cat swallow that water - it has to spit it out! You got everything?" Daydream knew that was a bit much for her first training session, but Lightpaw needn´t remember everything now.
"Okay, you only have to know for now, that you mustn´t eat them, cause they are poison for every cat, even the strongest warrior can die from them." Daydream looked into into Lightfires eyes.

OOC: It's Lightpaw, not Lightfire! And I think death berries are called yarrow berries.

Yes, Daydream, piped Lightpaw. And how do you get the cat to vomit death berries up?

OOC: did you read the warrior books? They always call them daeth berries. Sorry, i made a warrior of you

Not so bad, is it?

"You´re a very clever apprentice. I´m sure You´ll be a good medicine cat one day." Daydream paused. "The best way to get a cat vomit is feeding it yarrow. Yarrow - chewed into a pulp - can also be put on infected wounds and rat bites." Daydream nodded towards the next bush. It hang ful of purpil berries and had spiky green leaves.

"These are juniper berries. We use them for belly aches and cats who have trouble with breathing. Be careful when you pick them - the bush has some nasty spikes. I think we could take some of them back to camp. Would you like to help me?"

Sure, meowed Lightpaw. The apprentice nodded to her mentor and began gently pulling the purple berries off the bush. What else?

"You are very eager to learn." Daydream smiled. She liked Lightpaw. "Hmm... Marigold. Thats a golden/orange flower. Do you see any? We could take some of them home, too." Daydream looked around. Her nose said, that there should be some around, but she couldn´t see any.

I can't see any, Lightpaw said doubtfully. Where do you find. . . . er. . . is that it? She gestured to a clump of golden flowers hidden in the shadow of a bush.

"Yes! This is Marigold. It´s really important. We use it to stop infections and to treat wounds." Daydream bit of some flowers to take them with her home and signaled Lightpaw to do the same.

Lightpaw nodded dutifully. She gathered her own berries and padded on home. It had been an exciting beginning to a new life. She was glad she had chosen to become Daydream's apprentice.
